Dear readers!
We would like to present the second book of the series the “Sportive Russia”. The genre of it is a daily-calendar (in Russian) combining traditional documentary list of famous dates with narration of various facts from the history of the International Olympic and Sports Movement. Here you can find the description of the Olympic kinds of sports, entertaining sports statistics, memorable historical events of Russian Sports, information about ParaOlympic movement and Russian Special Olympic Movement, interesting episodes from the history of female sports and great amount of other cognitive information.
The pages of the daily calendar give competitions calendars of the XXVII Games of the Olympiad and XII ParaOlympic Games 2000 in Sydney (Australia), calendars of sports championships kindly submitted by Federations of Particular Sports. We are sure that with their help the next issue of the calendar will be more complete and rich in information.
The fifty second session of the UNO General Assembly proclaimed the 2000 year the International Year of Peace Culture. It means the necessity to save future generations from war disasters. It means transition to the culture of peace, the main values of which are the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, all human rights, tolerance and solidarity. Sport has always been and is the champion of these common to all mankind values. It is one of the main elements of world creation and unity.
In the Olympic year we repeat the words of Pierre de Coubertin: “Oh, Sport! You are peace!” We hope this edition is harmonious with those honorable ideas.
